This contemporary kitchen is an exciting fusion of color and texture. By shunning the standard and all too typical stark neutrals; instead, brininging dramatic contrast.
The kitchen is adjacent to the family room and combined eating area. Seperating the space is a 6 foot knee wall with a bridge suspending V-shaped low voltage lighting. A multicolor glass backsplash sizzles under glass flip up doors.
The island takes center stage in the space. Besides providing additional storage and work space, the island houses a second sink and an additional dishwasher, making for easy cleanup. Its placement in such close proximity to the cooktop is no mistake either, allowing the homeowners to take food from prep to simmering in an instant.
Completing the modern yet elegant aesthetic is a buffet-style furniture piece framed in stainless steel that takes its place to the left of the doorway. A honeycomb glass backsplash spans the distance between the granite top and the frosted-glass cabinets above.

To achieve a loft like open feel, the wall between the kitchen and the dinning room was removed allowing the space to flow as one. A new furniture piece with raised glass supported by steel supports now defines the kitchen from the dinning area. Base cabinetry is raised with steel legs that impart a contemporary, minimalist furniture-like appearence. New ceiling heights soar to 14 feet enhancing the open ambiance. A modern horizontal line is repeated at the thick light bridge and countertops.

Incorporating plenty of function but cloaked in a gorgeous form. For example, the large hood not only provides proper ventilation, but it also serves as both storage and a stunning centerpiece. Its decorative details include Corinthian colums at the base that double as pullout spice racks. Plus, plenty of counter space was included on both sides of the hood for prep work and hot pot landings.
The pretty-yet-practical design concept continues at the island, which connceals mess during cooking. With a sink, diswasher, and garbage pail included, the two-level island makes prep work a breeze. And the right bar-height end with overhang seating area helps hide unsightly messes or dirty dishes, on the prep side.
With its large opening making it visible from the den, the kitchen also needed a high-end appearence. So, by brining in many furniture details, including a valence with onlays under the wall cabinet by the eating area, glass wall cabinets with mullions, decorative corbels, panels with base molding around the island, an open arch with beaded board above the refridgerator, and a framed corkboard by the desk-all part of the space’s polished practicality.
